Hello! I’m Matsumoto, an administrative scrivener.
It’s been a while since I last updated this blog.
Lately, I’ve been quite busy—though I’m certainly grateful for the work.
Today, I’m announcing a new series of articles aimed at foreign nationals living in Japan.
I want to help resolve the challenges foreign nationals face.
As an administrative scrivener specializing in international affairs, I’ve realized that the situations of foreign nationals working in Japan vary greatly.
Take Japanese language learning, for example: some Technical Intern Trainees start working immediately upon arrival, while others attend Japanese language schools and work part-time jobs on the side.
Those attending language school can ask their teachers about minor questions regarding Japanese, but those who don’t often end up using the language without fully understanding it—which can sometimes lead to trouble.
Recently, I saw a video on social media showing a foreign shop clerk getting furious.
It seemed like the trouble stemmed from a misunderstanding of Japanese nuances.
(Of course, there are also Japanese people who act arrogantly toward shop clerks, regardless of whether they are foreign or not.)
You can use translation sites to figure out basic Japanese, but they often fail to convey the nuances.
Japanese is a unique language—characterized by things like having multiple words for “I” (first-person pronouns) and frequently omitting the subject of a sentence—so I plan to write about these kinds of details.
While these articles are primarily aimed at foreign nationals, I hope my regular readers (most of whom are Japanese) will also enjoy them by gaining a new perspective—thinking, “I can see how that would be difficult for someone from another country.”
I would love to hear your ideas! Please feel free to leave a comment suggesting topics or challenges you think would be helpful to cover.
If any foreign nationals are reading this, please don’t hesitate to leave questions in the comments; I’d be happy to address them in future articles.
Concept of this article series
Since I am an administrative scrivener, I initially considered writing about administrative procedures…
However, given that these procedures are already complex, I want to avoid causing further confusion through my explanations; instead, I plan to write articles that are light and easy to read.
If you wish to consult me regarding professional services (such as matters related to residence status), please contact me separately.
This blog is not the official website for my administrative scrivener office; I started it simply to share casual updates about my daily life in the profession…
In terms of format, I plan to present articles covering the topics mentioned earlier in various languages.
As the number of articles grows, it may become difficult to navigate; therefore, I intend to organize the content—such as by splitting pages—to ensure the site remains easy to read and browse.
